Why So Blue? Because Genie Isn’t. Entertainment Weekly Gives Us Our First Look at Disney’s Live-Action ‘Aladdin’

Entertainment Weekly has given us our first look at official photos from Disney’s new adaptation of Aladdin this morning, giving us a quick glimpse at the film, as we get to see Aladdin (Mena Massoud),  Jasmine (Naomi Scott), and Genie (Will Smith).

Have no fear about Smith’s appearance in these preview images, however.

The final version of Will Smith’s Genie in his blue form isn’t quite done just yet.  But director Guy Ritchie gave EW a tease of what he is going to look like. “I wanted a muscular 1970s dad,” the director says. “He was big enough to feel like a force — not so muscular that he looked like he was counting his calories, but formidable enough to look like you knew when he was in the room.”

“I think it’ll stand out as unique even in the Disney world,” Smith says. “There hasn’t been a lot of that hip-hop flavor in Disney history.”

“Whenever you’re doing things that are iconic, it’s always terrifying,” Smith tells the magazine, with a laugh. “The question is always: Where was there meat left on the bone? Robin didn’t leave a lot of meat on the bone with the character.”

Guy Richie’s live-action Aladdin movie will be out in theaters Memorial Day Weekend.  In the meantime, please enjoy this poster of Shaq in the 1996 Disney movie Kazaam, for no reason whatsoever.
