The First Poster for Disney’s Live-Action ‘Aladdin’ Makes its Debut Courtesy of Will Smith

2019 will be the biggest year yet for Disney’s live-action remakes of its animated movies to hit theaters.  Next year will see three new adaptations arrive: Dumbo, Aladdin and The Lion King.

While we’ve already gotten our first look at Dumbo via a poster and a trailer, we had yet to see what we can expect from Aladdin and The Lion King.  Disney changed that today with a teaser poster for the former.

Next Memorial Day Weekend, Aladdin will be released to theaters with Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie at the helm.  Will Smith takes over for the late Robin Williams, portraying the wisecracking Genie, who grants the lucky Aladdin three wishes after the youth frees him from his lamp (Williams voiced the character in the 1992 original). Yesterday, Smith granted fans’ own wishes by releasing the first poster for the film on his Instagram account.

Here, the magic lamp is placed on full display, with a more detailed design than the original 1992 teaser poster:

For its part, Disney confirmed we’ll be getting a first look at the movie sometime today, though whether or not that’s in the form of a magazine exclusive (they did this for Captain Marvel last month) or a teaser trailer is anyone’s guess.

We’ll keep you posted when that preview is made available from Disney.  Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake is set to be released to theaters on May 24, 2019.
