It looks like The Arrowverse is going to get yet another super spin-off.
Superman & Lois is in development at The CW, starring both Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch, back to reprise their roles as the title characters from current The CW Super Show Supergirl.
The former showrunner of The Flash will write the script and executive produce the potential series, with Greg Berlanti on his Producer. It sounds like we may be getting more a Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman vibe as the show is described as “revolving around the world’s most famous super hero and comics’ most famous journalist deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.” Lois & Clark ran for 4 seasons on ABC from 1993-1997 and had more of a playful tone for the Superman Mythos.
The show seems to have been in the cards for a while as it’s been revealed that Helbing stepped away as the showrunner of The Flash all the way back in March to focus on development of this series.
It was back in 2016 that Hoechlin was cast as Superman for the purposes of appearing in the first two episodes of Supergirl‘s second season. Since then, Hoechlin has participated in several more episodes of his cousin’s series and has also appeared in the Arrowverse‘s annual crossover events. Tulloch, who was a mainstay on NBC’s Grimm, was cast as Lois Lane in September of last year and appeared in last year’s “Elseworlds” Crossover.
The choice to go back to the Superman (and Lois) well comes nearly a decade after The CW told Clark Kent’s origin story throughout ten season in the hit series Smallville, which did not debut the Superman character until the final episode in May 2011.
