‘Superman: Red Son’ Animated Movie Reportedly Being Planned By Warner Bros.

It looks like Warner Bros. is looking to prepare an animated film based on the classic 2003 “Elseworlds” story, Superman: Red Son. Here is the official synopsis of that story from DC Comic’s Official Website:

“He’s a strange visitor from another world who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands’ — and who, as the champion of the common worker, fights a never-ending battle for Stalin, Socialism and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact.A deftly written alternate take on the mythos of the Man of Steel, RED SON explores the classic tale of Superman’s origins’ — if his rocketship had landed in the Soviet Union rather than Smallville, Kansas.”

Yesterday, the website Revenge of the Fans reported on a cast list that Animated DC veterans like Amy Acker, Jason Issacs, Phil LaMar, Tara Strong and Diedrich Bader were all on, although no one has been tied to a specific role. This list would seem to make up the majority of the supposed cast for the upcoming film.

The animated films by Warner Bros. based on DC properties have been more willing to explore stories that do not take place in the main canon of DC characters. Last year, they released the “Elseworlds” themed Batman: Gotham by Gaslight.

The above is fan art from DeviantArt, but resembles what what an animated Red Son could look like.

The next DC original animated film will be Reign of the Supermen, which will be released digitally on Jan. 15.
