Spider-Man: Far From Home Videos and Set Photos Give Us Our First Look at Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio

Over the weekend, new photos and brief clips from the set of Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Far From Home made their way online.  The production was on location in Liberec, Czech Republic when the snapshots and videos in question were taken.  These images appear to feature Jake Gyllenhaal in costume as Mysterio, the iconic villain who will be front and center in the film.

From this distance, the suit Gyllenhaal is wearing looks as though it pretty comic accurate, although it should be noted that he isn’t sporting his trademark “fishbowl head.”  While likely a mandate from Sony that we see the actor’s face throughout the movie, one has to imagine that they won’t go without showing the famous headgear for the first time in live action here.

Once a skilled stuntman and visual effects wizard working in Hollywood, in the original Spider-Man comic books, Mysterio’s real name was Quentin Beck. Once Beck realized that his skills could only get him so far, he tried to become an actor.  But that didn’t work out and he decided to use his impressive special effects talents to become the illusionist supervillain that fans are familiar with.  From here, Mysterio went on to one of the prominent members of Spider-Man’s rogues’ gallery.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is being directed by Jon Watts.  The film stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, Hemky Madera, Tony Revolori, Jake Gyllenhaal, Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson. It hits theaters on July 5, 2019.
