Back in December, Warner Bros. Pictures teamed up with Amazon Prime to offer up an advanced screening of Aquaman a couple of weeks before its official release date. Now, the studio is going into a partnership with ticketing service Fandango to premiere Shazam! on March 23 at 1,200 theaters via Fandango’s VIP program. Ticket sales begin today for the limited engagement.
Fandango has previously partnered with other studios to help build interest for films with other early releases. Universal Pictures used the ticketing service for screenings of How To Drain Your Dragon: The Hidden World just last month and prior to that, Sony teamed with them on Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle and Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.
“We’re thrilled to work with Warner Bros. on our early access screening program, helping eventize movies and generate buzz before opening weekend,” Fandango President Paul Yanover told Deadline. “SHAZAM! is a film that appeals to the whole family, and we’re delighted that Fandango VIP fans will be among the first to see the film two weeks before it officially hits theaters.”
“Fandango is a terrific partner and we’re excited to work with them to bring this film to their VIP members ahead of release,” said Jeff Goldstein, president of Warner Bros. Pictures Domestic Distribution. “SHAZAM! is not only a great superhero action movie, but a really funny one, full of heart and charm, and we look forward to Fandango audiences being among the very first to experience it on the big screen.”
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam, courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.
Opening on April 5, director David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! stars Zachary Levi as Shazam, Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Djimon Hounsou as the ancient wizard Shazam, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield and Jack Dylan Grazer as Frederick “Freddy” Freeman.
