Amid Announcements of Release Date Shifts, Fox Has a New Deadpool Movie Coming Out… *THIS* December??

2oth Century Fox is once again shaking up its release schedule of Mutant Movies and one James Cameron Tentpole.

The studio has announced that it will push back the release of three anticipated blockbusters to give them more breathing room.  The ever reliable Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter dropped Fox’s news in a series of tweets this afternoon.

First, it was initially announced that an “Untitled DeadPool Movie” would be released on December 21, 2018, raising eyebrows all over the internet.  The confusion was only brief as Fox announced that this would be a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2, which will contain new footage filmed with Fred Savage, effectively spoofing the bookends of The Princess Bride.

The James Cameron produced, Robert Rodriguez directed Alita: Battle Angel, originally set to open on December 21, will be moved out to a February 2019 release date to accommodate the re-release:

The reason for this move is pretty obvious; On December 21, Warner Bros. is opening Aquaman and Paramount already has Bumblebee revved up.  Both films have received positive reactions due to their most recent trailer releases, so Alita’s chances competing with them weren’t looking good.

As Kitt’s tweet suggests, This means that Dark Phoenix, the next X-Men film, will be pushed back to June 7, 2019.  The film had previously been scheduled for release in November of this year, so this marks the second time Fox has moved the release date for the film.

Fox has also again shifted the release of their Gambit film, starring Channing Tatum.

The film, a solo adventure with the popular X-Men character, has already been rescheduled numerous times and was originally set for a 2016 release date.
